Simply Endorsed Instrument Checkride Endorsements

The instrument checkride path is one of the endorsement sequences that confuses applicants because AC 61-65K uses a combined instrument-specific prerequisite endorsement instead of relying only on the more general private or commercial pattern. In Simply Endorsed, the instrument path is usually centered on A.43 and A.44, with A.1 often treated as a supporting reference.

That matters because A.44 already combines recent practical-test preparation and review of knowledge-test deficiencies for the instrument practical test. This page is a quick overview, and the main Simply Endorsed tool is where you can search the broader AC 61-65K library when you need the full wording and nearby endorsements.

Relevant endorsements

A.42

Aeronautical knowledge test

Shows the applicant completed the required ground training or review and is ready for the instrument rating knowledge test.

A.43

Flight proficiency/practical test

Shows the applicant completed the required training and is proficient for the instrument practical test.

A.44

Prerequisites for instrument practical tests

Combines the instrument practical-test recommendation with review of knowledge-test deficiencies and stays valid for 2 calendar months.

A.1

Common supporting reference

Often shown as a supporting reference because instructors still think in terms of the broader recent-practical-test-preparation pattern.

Reference aid only. Verify the applicant's knowledge-test deficiency review, the 2-calendar-month practical-test preparation window, certificate path, current regulations, and current FAA guidance before recommending an instrument checkride.
